Toshiba has announced the launch of a number of new DVD standalone players, recorders and portable players today.

On the portable player front Toshiba has announced the SD-P30DT which includes a digital tuner for access to over 35 Freeview TV channels.

It has an 9-inch widescreen LCD panel with 800 x 480 picture resolution.

Matching this with another 9-inch screen is the mid-range SD-P2800, which replaces the SD-P2700 and has an 800 x 480 resolution plus a 350:1 contrast ratio.

Toshiba are promising a 170 degree viewing angle on both models.

Each player includes component video output for connecting to other AV equipment, two channel DVD-Audio playback and DivX playback.

The SD-P2800 features an enhanced battery life of 4.5 hours and has a built-in 4-in-1 memory card reader (SD, MMC, Memory Stick and now XD) for viewing digital images.

The entry-level SD-P1700 houses an A-Si QVGA LCD panel with a 7-inch screen and 480 x 234 picture resolution. The player features a 4 hour battery life and a 4-in-1 card slot. Each player is also compatible with DVD-Video, DVD-R and DVD-RW.
