Panasonic claims "no plans to discontinue Technics"

Technics brand to live on - but what about the SL-1200 and SL-1210?

On 27 November, Pocket-lint took a look at the rumours that were swirling around claiming that Panasonic was going to discontinue the Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 turntables, which are the industry standard for vinyl DJing.

Well, as promised, Panasonic has come back to us with a statement, which claims that the brand will live for the foreseeable future: "As a major global business, Panasonic keeps all of its operations under constant review. However, there are no current plans to discontinue the Technics Brand".

This, unfortunately, doesn't tell us much. Technics as a brand covers many products, including but not limited to, the SL-1200 and SL-1210. Those specific models of turntable could easily be axed from the range while the statement remains true.

So we've gone straight back to Panasonic asking specifically about the SL-1200 and SL-1210, and whether they are being discontinued or not. We'll let you know the moment we hear back.
