John Lewis selling one Wii every minute

Nintendo console proving popular before Christmas

Nintendo's Wii console is flying off the shelves at John Lewis, with the retailer claiming that it's selling one every minute in its store network across the UK.

Families are evidently beginning to plan their Christmas holidays, and the Wii has proven itself as accessible enough to entertain relatives of all descriptions over the holiday season. Sales of other consoles haven't been disclosed, but the retail giant did mention that the top-selling games are Sports Resort, Winter Sports 2009 and Mario Kart.

Helen Keppel-Compton, head of consumer electronics for John Lewis told Pocket-lint: "In a recent John Lewis Christmas study, 75% of respondents said that computer games proved the most popular with children beyond Christmas and last year sales of computer games soared a staggering 500%. The Wii is a great way of getting the whole family up and active".
