Windows Live Messenger hits Nokia Messaging

Nokia E72 first to get IM app from homescreen

20 November 2009 17:32 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Windows Live Messenger is now available via the Nokia Messaging Chat application straight from compatible phone's homescreens.

This first instalment of Windows Live Messenger for Nokia Messaging includes tabbed chat windows, the ability to call directly from the buddy list, and notifications of new messages that pop up while the application is in the background.

Features include an appear offline login option while grouped contacts, emoticons and sounds are also available.

The Nokia E72 is the first device that comes with support for Windows Live Messenger, but the Nokia E63, Nokia E71 and Nokia E75 are also good to go after a download of "Nokia Messaging for IM" from the Ovi Store.

  • I'd recommend Nimbuzz over this. It also supports Live Messenger, tabs, background activity, file transfer and every other messenger going. Including Facebook chat, Twitter updates and VOIP.

It costs nothing and works really well on my trusty ol' N82.

  • The E72 I bought last week from the Nokia store on Regent Street doesn't have Live Messenger as one of the options in Chat - there's just Google Talk, Ovi and Yahoo. And the 'check for updates' option doesn't reveal an update with MSN/Live Posted by Nigel Whitfield, UK
