Xbox 360's Xtival weekend returns

19 November 2009 17:33 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Microsoft has announced that its Xbox festival - Xtival - will be returning in late November. Running across 27 to 29 November - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - the festival is a celebration of gaming, movies and music that takes place on Xbox Live.

For the duration of the weekend, anyone with a free Xbox Live silver account will see it temporarily upgraded to the Gold version, so you can play with the recently launched Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm and Sky Player functionality. It'll also mean that you'll be able to play online games with other Xbox 360 owners.

On the music side, the Xtival will be showcasing a live gig from DJ Tiësto, along with interviews and the chance to download excerpts from the forthcoming Metallica DVD. There'll be classic concerts from Run DMC and ZZ Top, as well as a video EP from the Prodigy.

And lastly on the cinema stage there'll be a 4-minute trailer from James Cameron's forthcoming "Avatar" available for 5 days. Alongside, there'll be various free downloads, competitions, and Xtival themed backgrounds and gamerpics.

Xtival runs from 27 to 29 November on Xbox Live.
