Daily Tech Deal: SwapGame launches game trade-in service

13 November 2009 13:00 GMT / By Ben Crompton

An interesting tech deal for you today, which should suit gamers, as SwapGame.com has announced its new online trade-in service, giving you credit - not cash - for unwanted games, thereby reducing the price of your next purchase.

The launch comes on the back of a SwapGame poll that suggests that, here in the UK, people have around £1.8 billion of unused video games with a third of those having "over £100". Thankfully, SwapGame is coming to the rescue with its timely service.

Despite some reports suggesting the average game trade-in value at SwapGame.com is around the £25 mark, on typing in a few game titles, it turns out the site will give you £5.18 for Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 with the Xbox 360 version getting a little more at £5.44, whereas Modern Warfare 2 will end up banking you around £20 on both formats.

Postage is free, the site has plenty of titles to choose from and there's no traipsing around the shops - so you'll have to weigh up the pros and cons yourself if you feel trade-in prices might be on the low side.

There's a link here so you can make a full investigation - please leave your thoughts below - and we'll have another tech deal for you on Monday.

  • Sounds interesting and the site looks good. I guess you have to weigh up how much they charge for new or pre-owned games as this is where you will use your credit. Their sales prices seem good compared to high street and its a damn sight easier than going into town to offload your unused games. I'm in. Posted by John Freshwater, UK
  • Taken a look at the site and the prices arent bad for some of the older titles - but you are right, the trade-in values arent as great for some of the newer titles.

Of course, there are alternatives online such as cex and tradeyourstuff and musicmagpie that have been doing this for years - and their prices for trade-in seem to be much better..
