Boxee confirms set top box coming

12 November 2009 18:56 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Boxee, the open source home entertainment system has announced that it will be launching its own set top box next year when the service goes into public beta.

Currently available on the PC and Mac, as well as the Apple TV (before Apple's latest 3.0 update), the company has confirmed that it has "signed our first partnership with a CE company".

Details are sketchy as to who will make the box, when and where it will be available, and how much it will cost, but the company are promising more details will be announced at a 7 December launch event, incidentally when the company says it will dish out more details on the beta.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of a previous one suggesting that the company would be showing 3.

According to the company, the "Boxee Beta will look, feel and behave differently from the Alpha".

New features promised include a new user interface, improved navigation, the ability to search for TV shows and movies as well as a user controlled queue and more.

We will bring you more on the new features presumably for the Windows and Mac versions in December.
