Windows Marketplace for Mobile gets updated

Microsoft extending the service to Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 devices this month

"Much anticipated upgrades for Windows Marketplace for Mobile" have now gone live, reports Microsoft in a blog post.

Part of the second wave of features promised, there's said to be more advanced anti-piracy protection and an improved developer portal, as well as the introduction of PC-based shopping and account management for Windows Phone customers.

From now on, Windows Phone customers can browse, buy and download applications online at the Windows Marketplace for Mobile site with the apps then delivered wirelessly to the Windows Phone.

"We've been open for just over one month and already we can see that there's demand for an application marketplace that doesn’t compromise on quality or experience", says Microsoft.

It has also been revealed that the Marketplace will soon be available for those using older version of the Windows Mobile OS, with the following quote:

"I look forward to providing a more detailed update on Windows Marketplace for Mobile when we extend the service to Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 customers later this month".
