MP Tom Watson forms gamers' pressure group

To help video gamers "find their voice"

UK Labour MP Tom Watson has formed a political pressure group called "Gamers' Voice", designed to "discuss how UK video gamers can find their voice in newspapers and government". The MP announced the creation of the group, which currently manifests itself on Facebook, via his Twitter account.

The group says, in its description: "Are you sick of UK newspapers and (my fellow) politicians beating up on gaming? So am I. The truth is, UK gamers need their own pressure group. I want to help you start one up. I don't know how it should work yet but please register your interest if you agree that gamers need their voice heard in the corridors of power".

An article in the Daily Mail prompted Watson to create the group after it claimed that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "allows players to plot terror attacks against civilians". The article has now been updated, to remove those claims, following outrage in the comments.

Tom Watson has a long history as perhaps the most geek-friendly MP. This move will no doubt further that reputation, depending on how successful it becomes.
