Palestinian street named after Twitter account

"Where are you @?"

It's being reported that a street has been named after a Twitter username in the Palestinian West Bank. In the Askar refugee camp, close to the city of Nablus, a road has been named "@ arjanelfassed tweetstreet", after the user @arjanelfassed.

A Dutch charity, Jouw Eigen Straatnam, charges 100 euros for each of the street names in the camp, and all the proceeds go to the Palestinian Child Care Society, which funds "cultural and expressive after-school activities", according to El Fassad.

El Fassad says: "Since a refugee camp by definition should not remain permanent, selling street names of the camp is a creative way to connect people and support these children after school. Naming the street to my Twitter account is a symbolic way to connect both online and offline with the children of Askar".

Perhaps we need an @stephenfry street in the UK?
