Nikon launches new EDG fieldscope range
Four new models and seven compatible eyepieces
17 March 2009 11:12 GMT / By Verity Burns
Nikon has announced its new flagship range of EDG fieldscopes that it describes as "cutting edge, yet affordable".
The new EDG 85/85-A and EDG 65/65-A models feature Nikon’s ED (Extra-low Dispersion) to ensure chromatic aberration compensation, while the phase correction coated roof prism promises high resolution for sharper, clearer viewing.
Additionally, the "Straight Scope" models feature dielectric high-reflectivity multi-layer prism coatings for a higher contrast than previous models.
The new models boast a "compact, stylish" design, and are both fog-free and waterproof to 2 metres for up to 10 minutes.
Seven new compatible eyepieces have also been introduced making it possible to use the fieldscopes in a number of situations.
The newly developed zoom eyepiece for example, makes for superior optical performance with minimised distortion and comfortably long eye relief (18.4-16.5mm).
Finally, the combination of a Nikon DSLR camera, the digital camera zoom attachment FSA-L2 and an EDG fieldscope would allow for super-telephoto photography or digiscoping.
The EDG fieldscope range is set to be launched in the summer, with prices to be confirmed. For more details, head over to the Nikon website, and we'll bring you more information when we have it.
