Leica announces M8.2 Safari limited edition

27 January 2009 12:14 GMT / By Verity Burns

German camera manufacturer Leica has announced a limited Safari edition of its M8.2 camera.

Collectors will have to be quick if they want to add this camera to their collection, as there will be only 500 pieces available worldwide.

The M8.2, an upgraded version of the old M8, features a 10.3-megapixel sensor, 2.5-inch screen, a choice of both manual and automatic settings, RAW compatibility and all in a compact, ultra-lightweight body.

The Safari model in particular comes in a rather fitting olive green vulcanite-finish body, helping to make sure you don't get spotted when you're sneaking up on that orangutan.

The camera will come with a 28mm F2.8 Summicron lens, a matching, equally Safari-esque canvas and leather camera bag and a brown calfskin strap with Leica imprinted on it.

Now you'd have probably guessed this wasn't going to come cheap, and at $10,000 (around £7,100) you wouldn't be wrong. Better start saving.
