Nikon releases SB-900 firmware update

Version 5.02 now available

Nikon UK has announce a firmware update for its SB-900 flash.

Version 5.02 will provide a number of improvements to fix problems reported by users.

Firstly, when the SB-900 was set to i-TTL mode when uninterrupted shooting, images captured just before the flash ceased firing were sometimes slightly overexposed. This issue has now been resolved, and by doing so, metering precision and the number of times the flash fires has been increased.

Secondly, when the SB-900 was in TTL auto flash mode and used with a camera supporting the Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS), the flash mode automatically used to change to A mode according to camera communication status. That flash mode was previously maintained, but it has now been modified so that TTL auto flash mode is restored once the SB-900 again recognises the camera as a CLS-compatible camera.

You can use a number of different cameras to install the upgrade. You can use your D3 or D300 but you must ensure you have the latest firmware for the camera (version 2 and 1.10 respectively) before you do. Alternatively you can use your D700 or D90 with no firmware update required.

Visit Nikon's website to download the latest update, with a different version available for PCs and Macs.
