Sony Ericsson to make short film from phone photography

With Oscar-nominated film director

Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Oscar-nominated film director Mike Figgis to make a short film entirely from mobile phone photos taken by everyday people.

Mike and Sony Ericsson are urging anyone who wants to be a part of the finished product - "Life Captured" - to submit a storyboard consisting of five mobile phone snapshots that best showcase their life.

The competition is open to 19 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with a national winner chosen from each that shows the most potential.

Winners will be briefed by Mike to shoot their part of the "Life Captured" film, and given a Sony Ericsson C902 Cyber-Shot camera phone and four weeks to do so. Mike will then edit it all together for the finished product.

"Making a moving film out of everyday people’s still snapshots was a challenging brief but I was instantly inspired by Sony Ericsson’s aim to reveal an unseen side of life across so many countries", said Mike.

He added: "Mobile phone photographs are increasingly being used as an immediate and exciting way to capture life as it happens. This intriguing film will compare every day happenings and personal moments, providing a window into people’s private worlds previously unseen."

Five out of the 19 contributors will be chosen as "Outstanding Achievers", and will receive a VIP trip for them and a friend to attened the film's red carpet premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London in October 2008.
