Olympus has refreshed their shockproof, waterproof and freezeproof compact offerings with two new models.
Sadly not taking the opportunity to refresh the names, the new cameras still boast crazy titles.
The "µ [mju:] 1030 SW" and the "µ [mju:] 850 SW" offer the same toughness that previous models have done, but now come with some "advanced" features.
The µ [mju:] 1030 SW is shockproof to 2 metres, waterproof to 10 metres, freezeproof to -10°C and even crushproof to 100kg.
A scratchproof metal exterior in a choice of Platinum Silver, Midnight Black and British Green, means that, according to Olympus, this model is "always ready for action".
Other spec of note is the 3.6x optical zoom (equiv. to 28-102mm), a 10.1-megapixel sensor and a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD.
The µ [mju:] 850 SW boasts a metal body in a choice of Starry Silver, Midnight Black or Metal Pink, is shockproof to 1.5 metres, waterproof to 3 metres and freezeproof to -10°C.
An 8-megapixel model, the 850 SW offers a 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD and a 3x optical zoom (equiv. to 38-114mm).
Both models feature Face Detection, Shadow Adjustment and BrightCapture Technology and Digital Image Stabilisation.
These tough new cameras will be available from February 2008 at recommended prices of £319.99 for the µ [mju:] 1030 SW and £229.99 for the µ [mju:] 850 SW.
