BenQ sell camera division

Ditching unprofitably division

21 May 2007 17:40 GMT / By Stuart Miles

BenQ looks like it has finally realised that while it may do well selling computer monitors, it's no match for the likes of Canon, Nikon, Pentax et al. when it comes to making digital cameras.

The company has over the weekend announced that it is selling its digital camera arm to a Taiwanese company called Ability Enterprise.

Ability has agreed to acquire BenQ’s digital camera-related assets, including manufacturing equipment, materials as well as taking on the division's 70 staff.

The company has said however that it will be still branding the cameras with the BenQ moniker.
