PMA 2007: HP rules out entering the DSLR camera market

Wants to concentrate on professional printing instead

HP has ruled out the urge to enter the ever-burgeoning Digital SLR camera market at PMA 2007 in Las Vegas.

In a presentation to European press, Michael Diehl, vice president of Digital Photography and Entertainment Imaging and Printing Group for EMEA said:

"We are not interested in digital SLR cameras, but rather than the imaging pipeline to make consumer photography easy."

The market recently saw Sony enter with the A100 in connection with Konica Minolta.

However that hasn't stopped the company going after the professional printing market for photographers. The company announced a new printing technology called HP DreamColour tat it plans to introduce across a range of markets and product categories including its printers, PCs and monitors.

The company also said that it will be focusing its efforts on offering a complete software eco-system to allow interoperability between cameras, printers, in-store printing and its online store Snapfish.
