PSP-4000 rumours return

UMD to make a comeback?

29 October 2009 10:48 GMT / By Duncan Geere

It's being rumoured that Sony will be announcing a PSP-4000 in 2010. Edge is reporting that the Tokyo Game Show this year was full of whispers that the PSP Go hasn't been selling at all well, and that Sony has decided to reverse the decisions made and return to the UMD format.

The PSP Go launched with a rather large price tag, and a limited catalogue of games, as well as a poor upgrade experience. Sales rocketed 300% in the first few days that the PSP Go was on sale, but appear to have fallen off just as quickly. As a result, is Sony stepping back from its digital-only strategy?

We won't know for sure until the company makes an announcement one way or another, and Sony Computer Entertainment UK refused to comment on this story. Until then, we'd be interesting in hearing your thoughts - do you have a PSP Go? Do you miss the UMD? Or have you refused to get one thanks to your catalogue of UMD games and movies?

  • It was a silly move to move to the psp-go not many people would by it because it is too much hassle downloading credit cards making accounts etc, now Sony know they wont make no more sales for the psp 3000 so what theyll do is release another psp with the original stuff but a few attrractive things to reel the missing customers in Posted by Psp Guy, United kingdom
  • I thought it was stupid to make a download only game system. I don't want all my games to be on this unit. I would rather clog my memory stick with video and music than with games. Also I have 22 UMD's that would be useless with the PSP Go. So for me it was a PSP No.

The only way I would've ever upgraded to a no UMD version PSP is if they offered some kind of way that I could download all my games that I paid for. Like say for example if I brought my PSP games to Game Stop and they gave me a code for each game I brought in to show proof of ownership.
