Apple Magic Mouse software released to all

Software now available, shame the mouse isn't

Apple Magic Mouse software released to all

29 October 2009 5:20 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Apple has released a software update for its new Magic Mouse, allowing all Mac users running Leopard and Snow Leopard to use the new mouse even though stock of the new product can't be found in retail stores.

Apple has so far only offered the new touch sensitive mouse to customers who buy its new iMac computer following its announcement over a week ago.

While the company is famous for announcing a product and having it in stores the next, if not same, day Apple stores across the US are still without stock citing that it is "expected soon".

"You can expect once the software hits, the mouse will be available soon after", a store clerk told Pocket-lint in Apple's 5th Avenue store in New York before the software became available for download.

The update, which weighs in at 63.9MB, and 101MB when installed, will allow users of the mouse to scroll vertically and horizontally with a swipe of their finger rather than having to rely on a scroll wheel.

  • Remember the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC... I don't need any drivers" commercial? I'm a Mac. I don't need any drivers for this hardware but please download this giant O/S update instead. No it's not a driver, it's a... security fix... yes that's right. We just can't enable your mouse until it's installed because otherwise it would be... insecure. You don't have the new mouse? Well you need to download the update too so we can advertise it to you... no I mean secure your ordinary mouse as well. Posted by GK, UK
