Android 2.0 HTC Hero Inbound

HTC has confirmed that it will be bringing Android 2.0 to the HTC Hero.

"The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS", the company said via its official Twitter feed.

No deadline was given as to when the handset maker will release the update, or whether it will be coming to other handsets like the G1, G2, Magic or Tattoo, but presumably it's a matter of implanting the Sense UI into the OS.

HTC is expected to announce a new handset next week under the Droid family banner from Verizon, however comments from Verizon suggest this won't be an Android 2.0 sporting device.

We will keep you posted.

UPDATE: There are unconfirmed rumours that in the meantime, the HTC Hero won't be getting the Donut 1.6 update. Our approaches to HTC on the subject were met with a refusal to comment.
