NASA launches iPhone App

26 October 2009 11:44 GMT / By Duncan Geere

NASA has put together an iPhone application that'll let budding space-heads keep track of intersteller goings-on from their mobile phones. The app, which was released on 23 Oct, is called "NASA App For iPhone".

It allows users to view images about space, get information about specific missions and view videos and Twitter feeds. There's a few other features too - you can view exactly where the International Space Station - or other satellites - are at any given time, and view NASA's image of the day and astronomy image of the day.

The objective, of course, is to increase public interest in space again. NASA has had a hard time since the 60s in keeping in the public eye, and has struggled with funding for that reason. An iPhone app won't turn its fortunes around single-handedly, but should hopefully keep people focused on the skies, even if it's via their iPhone screens.
