Facebook has released a new homepage for users of touchscreen phones that can't or don't want to be burdened with downloading a dedicated app.

The new homepage, available at touch.facebook.com has been optimised for handsets like the iPhone and Android powered HTC Hero.

Users will get a tabbed system to access their Home page, Profile, Friends and Inbox as well as News Feed, Events and Requests. You'll also get to see your latest notifications as well.

Available to all handsets and desktop machines via the url, the experience is unlikely to be as good as a dedicated app, but will appeal to those just wanting a quick glance at what is going on in their social circle.
