A competition to find a solution or work around to allow users to boot Windows XP on the new Intel Macs from Apple has been won according to the site that set the challenge.

In a statement on the website the site owner Colin said:

The “Contest has been won - updates to follow shortly. All further donations will go into an account to sustain the open source project that will be launched with the initial solution”.

The lucky winner will walk away with just over $13,000 dollars for their efforts.

The prize, run in a similar way to the famous X prize, asked coders around the world to come up with a way of allowing users to boot Windows XP alongside Mac OS X on the new machines.

Starting with $100 of his own money, the prize pot soon rose as other people and companies agreed to donate money for the solution.

Programmers had to abide by a strict set of instructions to be included and the systems had to co-exist on the machine without affecting each others performance.

The solution will supposedly work on the 17- and 20-inch iMacs, MacBook Pro, and new Mac Mini.
