Michael Dell: Netbook novelty wears off fast

Says customer love lasts 36 hours

Michael Dell: Netbook novelty wears off fast

14 October 2009 18:34 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Michael Dell has slammed the netbook saying that while it's on everyone's wish list the excitement soon fades once they get it home.

"If you take a user who's used to a 14- or 15-inch notebook and you say 'Here's a 10-inch netbook,' they're gonna say 'Hey, this is so fantastic. It's so cute. It's so light. I love it'", Dell told Silicon Valley's tech-obsessed Churchill Club on Tuesday night according to El Reg. "But about 36 hours later, they're saying 'The screen's gonna have to go. Give me my 15-inch screen back'".

Dell of course offers a number of different netbook options including the popular Dell mini 10, a favourite with hackintosh fans.

The news comes as Dell and AT&T have announced that the Dell Vostro 1520, one of the company's low-end laptops, will be available as a "connected" option through AT&T.

Coming with 3G built in, the new laptop will come with a 2-year AT&T DataConnect 5GB monthly service plan for $633.
