Apple has released an update to its iMovie video editing software package and with it support for yet another movie standard.

While the main focus of the update is to fix bugs, compatibility and stability issues as well as add support for the newly announced iPod nano, it also adds, "improved compatibility with camcorders using the iFrame video format".

According to Sanyo, who launched two American versions of its cameras that record in the iFrame (the Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1 and Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000) format on Tuesday, the new format is designed specifically to allow users to easily import, edit and share high quality videos because it is the same format used to edit on a computer.

The result "dramatically speeds up the processes of importing, editing and sharing movies across multiple platforms and devices", says Sanyo.

iFrame shoots at 960 x 540 pixels compared to 1080P which is 1920 x 1080.

The update is recommended for all users of iMovie ’09.
