CeBIT 2006: Panasonic teams up with Skype

Panasonic announces dual VoIP and DECT landline phone with Skype

13 March 2006 15:55 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Panasonic has announced a dual VoIP and DECT landline phone in conjunction with Skype at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany.

The phone, which according to the UK press office, is unlikely to be available in this country until Christmas at the earliest, offers Skype built in allowing you to make phone calls to other Skype users free of charge.

The KX-TG9000 series, as it will be know, will work in a similar way to other Skype DECT handsets and will automatically route calls accordingly.

The move is the first time a major manufacturer has signed up to the service and it no doubt likely to boost the company's urge to get people using its service away from the PC.
