It may sound like the plot-line for an episode of The Simpsons, but a multi-national, mega corporation has opened an "Education Centre" within a school here in the UK.

"Childhood favourite is used to shape scientists of the future" is the angle taken on the LEGO Education Centre initiative that can be found at the Stockley Academy, in Middlesex.

The centre boasts the aim to "help students develop essential skills - from technology and mathematics to creativity and teamwork". Apparently Scandinavia was the first area to take the concept into the mainstream school and over 140 are now established in the area.

"As well as building and programming their own models and robots, students are able to make LEGO constructions that generate and store energy, as well as learning about the principles behind everyday technology", says the official blurb.

Presumably children are informed after every lesson that building bricks and robotic kits are available from other manufacturers.
