Facebook poke lands woman in court
Breached the terms of a protection order
12 October 2009 14:54 GMT / By Duncan Geere
A Tennessee woman is facing jail time thanks to a simple Facebook poke. Shannon D. Jackson, of Hendersonville, TN, has been arrested and sent to the Sumner County Jail after she poked another woman on Facebook, violating the terms of a court order that stated: "no telephoning, contacting or otherwise communicating with the petitioner".
A bond has been set at $1500, and if she's found guilty of the poke then she could face even more jail time - up to 29 days and a fine of up to $2500. Local paper The Tennessean said:
"According to the affidavit filed in Sumner County General Sessions Court, Jackson is accused of using the “poke” option on Facebook to contact a Hendersonville woman, thus violating the terms of the order of protection…Hendersonville police have made copies of the page in which the alleged victim is shown to be “poked”, according to the affidavit".
The lesson to be learnt here is that if someone's taken out a restraining order against you, then be very careful who you poke.
