We've brought you news of the plans to release an Android-based handheld gaming console previously, but now have more info on a release date and a rough idea of pricing.

The Odroid console, from Hardkernal, runs the Android OS 1.5 from a memory card and should be available to consumers from December with pricing pegged around $250.

A developer version of the device has now gone up for pre-order for around $320 with deliveries expected in early November.

The Odroid device offers the same 833MHz Samsung S5PC100 processor as in the iPhone 3GS, 512MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an SD card slot with an 8GB card thrown in.

The developer version also offers a download/charger cable, serial console debugging board and extra batteries.

We will keep you posted on the consumer release of this new gaming device as we hear more.
