Orange has announced that the iPhone 3G and 3GS will be coming to customers in the UK before the end of 2009.

In a brief statement the company announced that it has reached an agreement with Apple to supply the iPhone through all its retail channels - high street shops, online and via its telesales operation.

Orange currently supply the iPhone in 28 territories, with O2 having had the UK exclusive since the iPhone's launch.

The end of O2's exclusive has been widely discussed recently however and with the network receiving plenty of customer criticism following repeated periods of data downtime, it is perhaps not surprising that Orange choose to point out that they have the largest 3G network in the UK.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but we don't think it will vary much from the premium level that the iPhone attracts on O2.

Interested customers can register their interest online, via the link below.

  • This has been a long time coming. So glad it coming to the network I have never ever had problems with. Now with the combination with t-mobile just think of how good the data connections will be. Much better then o2. Posted by Dipesh Mistry, UK
  • Not good that the Register your Interest page wouldn't open on my iPhone - lol
Liking the idea of some competition too O2 though.

  • Apple are the real winners. They have an overpriced product that is just above average and have managed to create demand and unprecedented media coverage. I am an apple fan and have been for all the years I have owned an iMac, but the iPhone is overrated Posted by Nasser Aziz, uk
  • I am an iPhone user on o2 and havent experienced anythign serious in the way of the problems other customers are complaining about. However, as an Apple user in all manner of ways, im glad to see the iPhone will be open to a wider audience & that orange customers can now broaden their choices for phones. Well done Orange. • Unfortunately, it will not provide the type of competition that every will perceive. Ultimately, the pricing structures and incomes - both direct and indirect - are tightly controlled and majority earned by Apple. Very clever. Except that most of the subsidy that the mobile telcos have to pay will invariably lumped onto other users, who do not wish to own an Apple phone. Either this, or increasing prices to other users might be seen as a no-no, so unfortunately it could eventually impact on their profits, and could even lead to a decrease, or a stunted growth in technological progress or customer service. O2 had problems, so what's to stop this happening to Voda and Orange.. Bring on Open Source..... Posted by TheRealist, UK

  • Now that's a great phone to own! I used to want one for myself, but I gave up considering the fact that the money you spend on it could be your monthly salary in my country. I am however pleased with the fact that I found this place: http://bit.ly/8btvZt that features the Iphone 3Gs at 32 GB, legally unlocked, at 75% less than retail. That's a great offer for people like me, who like this product but can't afford one. Posted by tiffanywest, USA
