Ballmer expresses Windows Mobile frustration

Says version 7 should have already launched

25 September 2009 11:32 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's CEO, has admitted that Microsoft "screwed up", according to attendees. He made the comments at Microsoft's Venture Capital Summit in Mountain View, California.

Ballmer expressed regret that Windows Mobile 7 hadn't yet launched, saying "we've pumped in some new talent" and "this will not happen again". The company says that it's currently their second priority, after Windows 7.

Windows Mobile 6.5 was released to manufacturers on 11 May 2009, though devices running the OS are only now starting to filter through to the public with the first few due to debut in the next month. Windows Mobile 7 is currently planned for sometime in 2010.
