Digital Radio UK group announced to manage DAB switchover

Will work across the industry towards the 2015 digital radio "upgrade"

23 September 2009 11:45 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

The radio industry has announced a new group tasked with getting the UK ready for the digital radio "upgrade".

"Digital Radio UK" is the name of the newly formed organisation that will see the end of the Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB) and also incorporates the Digital Radio Delivery Group.

The group is described as "a new consumer-facing brand that will co-ordinate and manage the expansion of the digital radio platform throughout the UK".

Digital Radio UK will work with broadcasters, the car industry, manufacturers and retailers so that the industry can upgrade to digital delivery by the end of 2015.

"The launch of Digital Radio UK is a clear indication that the whole radio industry is committed to securing a digital future for radio", says Tim Davie, director of audio and music, at the BBC.

"By working together, we can deliver solutions that significantly increase digital listening and help to make switchover a reality".

  • The day bBC radio 4 FM is closed is the day I stop listening to the radio
DAB radio are expensive to buy, and eat batteries. I have several FM radios in the house, so replacing them with digital radios would be costly waste of money, so I will just get my new from the TV and by reading internet news sites.

  • The Pips on radio4 i.e.( The national time signal) is no longer any use on DAB as it is always at least 3 seconds late sometimes more.
