Activision boss promises plug-and-play Guitar Hero

At the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference in San Francisco, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has hinted at the direction that the company's Guitar Hero franchise might take in the future.

He wants to lessen the dependence of the series on console manufacturers by packing all the software and technology into the controllers themselves. In his future-vision, he sees gamers plugging their guitars straight into the TV - "independent of a console".

"I think what the untethered Guitar Hero does is equal the playing field a little more and give you some leverage with first parties when it comes to downloadable content and the business model", Kotick said.

He also talked about Activision's corporate culture, saying that it has an atmosphere of "scepticism, pessimism, and fear" in the attempt of "keeping people focused on the deep depression". He added: "The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games".
