O2 launches My O2 iPhone application

Check your account from your handset

O2 launches My O2 iPhone application

15 September 2009 15:26 GMT / By Duncan Geere

O2 has developed its very own iPhone application that enables you to check your account from your handset. The app, which is available right now on the app store, contains "comprehensive information on every part of a customer's account", says the company.

Both Pay & Go and Pay Monthly customers can use the app to check their tariff details, see how much of their inclusive allowance of texts and calls has been used, and see their latest bill or any bolt-ons that are on their account.

"Our customers want to stay in control of how much they spend whenever they like. The My O2 iPhone app allows them to do this with the minimum of fuss" said Sally Cowdry, marketing director for O2. She added: "We wanted to make this information as easy to view as possible. This is all part of our commitment to a great customer experience and we'll be looking at rolling this out to other phones in the near future".

To access the app you'll need a web connection - which comes as standard with iPhone contracts on O2. It's available free, right now, from the app store.

UPDATE: If you're having difficulties with the app, then O2 has provided some advice. See the link below.

  • So far it's poo. It says 'Network Unavailable', even though I've got signal and (obviously) downloaded it.

I'll keep trying though... Mind you, I recently did some work in the new O2 building in Slough and there was no 3G in there and often no service at all..... LOL ! But that's the one thing I'm disappointed about with my iPhone, the shameful 3G coverage with O2.

  • Same error here network unavailable.. im connected via wifi.. Posted by Dan, UK
  • Haven't had that problem yet. Perhaps O2 have underestimated the demand, and their severs can't cope? Wouldn't surprise me. Posted by Vex, United Kingdom
  • why would you need this? surely the huge number of minutes, texts and data that you get with the (even the minimum) monthly iPhone contract is enough?... Posted by Chris, UK
  • Chris, are you joking? Or an Apple/O2 employee? Every one I know complains about the measly 600mins a month for £35. And Three Mobile have had a portal like this for years. Posted by Errol, UK
  • I also get the network unavailable error message, while a mate of mine sitting right next to me can access it fine. Both using the same wifi connection. Main difference being, my phone is jailbroken, his is not. Perhaps something to do with that? Posted by Ade, UK
  • This is a nasty application that show little thought for the customer experience. You are tied to o2 if you want a legit iPhone. Then they release and app that consistently fails and you cannot connect. Great idea for a free app but at least do it right and test your application before you release it in you customers. Time Apple let someone else distribute iPhones. Posted by Ken, United Kingdom
  • Just downloaded this and low and behold it's pants!
"network unavailable." yet I'm sat next to my wireless router :(

  • Same goes here "Network Unavailable" - it's a joke application, Posted by Tom Klan, uk
  • The application will not let you connect to your account if your account is a business account, therefore controlled by the company you work for. The application will only work if you are the owner of your account. Basically private accounts should be able to access the application while business accounts cannot.

I believe that this is the reason why so many people cannot access the application, however I could be wrong....
