Following its recent netbook launches, ViewSonic has now announced the introduction of two new portable media players - the MovieBook VPD500 and VPD400.

ViewSonic claims its MovieBook range beats the competition with larger screens, and extended multimedia support for a variety of file formats, although Archos and Cowon might disagree.

Weighing in at 134 grams for the VPD400, the devices offer 5-inch or 4.3-inch, 800 x 480, TFT LCD displays with 720p video output, 8GB of built-in memory and a microSD card slot.

4 hours battery life is the maximum boast, and that file support encompasses AVI, RMVB, FLV, MP3, WMA and WAV, APE and FLAC.

The new ViewSonic MovieBooks will be available in October for £115 and £105.
