HP has announced a couple of new laptops that'll be on sale later in the year. Both subscribe to the "portable-but-powerful" trend that Intel has been pushing in machines that contain its chips. There's the HP ProBook 5310m and the HP Pavilion dm3.The ProBook 5310m is claimed to be the world's thinnest "full-performance" notebook, measuring just 0.9 inches thick. It weighs 3.7 lbs and has a 13.3-inch display. It's made of aluminium with a magnesium frame, and can pump out 10 hours of battery life.
HP Pavilion dm3, on the other hand, comes pre-loaded with a bunch of media software so that you can organise your digital music, watch internet TV, and marshal your photos, videos and other content. It has dedicated media buttons, hard drives up to 500GB and is less than an inch thick with a 4.3lb weight rating.
Both models offer a choice of Intel or AMD processors, as well as a choice of discrete or integrated Nvidia or ATI graphics chips. They all carry Windows 7 and will be available on 22 October. The HP ProBook 5310m starts at $699, and the HP Pavilion dm3 starts at $549.
UPDATE: HP has passed on UK pricing to us. The 5310m Probook starts at £440. The dm3 starts at £570. So there you go.
