Samsung Application Store goes live in UK

300 apps and support for one phone so far

14 September 2009 23:13 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Samsung followed Apple and RIM with the launch of a mobile app store in the UK, as it looks to offer its phone users a chance to download additional apps.

The new service, limited initially to Samsung Omnia i8910 handset owners, will offer around 300 paid for and free applications from the usual array of categories including games, social networking and productivity tools.

Support for more phones, such as the newly announced Omnia II and Omnia Lite is expected before the end of the year alongside a bevy of new apps from EA and Capcom.

Samsung Omnia users will have to download a software application via their PC to get the new Application Store.

So far Samsung is claiming Guitar Hero World Tour is the top game available.
