The Samsung Galaxy i7500 is still having difficulty making its way to retail stores in the UK, but that doesn't seem to bother Samsung which is forging ahead with an entry-level version of the handset, confusingly called the i5700.

The new handset, which is just a typo away from its older brother, has the same AMOLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi and Android OS, but storage is down to 1GB and camera is down to 3.2-megapixel, without a flash. Other than that, it seems fairly similar.

We don't have any further details yet on other specs, and certainly no info about the device coming to the UK, but it seems like this is more of a rival for customers of the HTC Magic than the HTC Hero. We've asked Samsung for further information, and will update if we hear anything.
