Google Maps team-up for online Monopoly City Streets

Using the whole world as giant board game

8 September 2009 10:01 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

The classic board game Monopoly has been given a tech makeover thanks to a team-up with Google.

Hasbro and Google have joined forces to make a worldwide online Monopoly game to promote the launch of Monopoly City, a modern 3D version of the board game.

The online effort, "Monopoly City Streets", goes live on 9 September (for 4 months) and integrates Google Maps and Google Earth to make the whole world a global Monopoly board.

Players will be able to buy and sell properties on any street they desire, as well as "build" skyscrapers and stadiums as well as houses and hotels on their streets.

The new Monopoly City edition board game is on sale now for around the £25 mark. The online version is free to those signing up.

  • Seems pretty unlikely that it'll come out on the xbox. Especially with the whole Google Microsoft rivalry thing going on...maybe it'll come out for Google's video game console in 2020 Posted by Jessica, http://www.forexsoftware-free.info
