In the UK, Sony Ericsson has issued a "save the date" press invite that reveals the retail launch timescale for two of its new handsets.

The invite, which has just hit Pocket-lint's inbox is said to be for an event: "To celebrate the retail launch of Sony Ericsson’s hotly anticipated Satio and Aino handsets".

The event is to take place on 7 October, which would suggest the new handsets will be available for consumers to buy on or around that date.

The Sony Ericsson Aino, with a 3-inch touchscreen, will be able to connect to the Sony PS3 as well as your PC. Other features include a 8.1 megapixel camera, and a GPS receiver.

The Satio (previously known as the Idou) will bring the Walkman and Cyber-shot brands together and come with a 12-megapixel camera on the back.

  • Please live up to the hype... Posted by stemfour, UK
  • Same here. I've been looking forward to the Aino for months now. As a PS3 owner who needs to commute regularly for work, university and so on, the Aino represents a great portable entertainment device. I just hope the the remote play feature functions properly and the phone is available on a good network operator with unlimited 3G internet included in the priceplan. Posted by Dew, London, England
  • @dew, I don't think the latter wil be a problem. As most network operators offer such a "unlimited internet time" deal. I am not really sure what it will cost in the UK but in the rest of Europe you usually pay about 10 euro's per month extra to make use of the 3G without restrictions. It is also good to know that you do not need to have your PS on all the time as your PSP has "sleep-mode" from which you can start it up again using the Aino.
