Skype has updated its iPhone app, bringing with it a number of new features that are likely to rattle o2 and AT&T in the UK and US.

Although the software application still doesn't feature the ability to make calls via the 3G network it has added call forwarding from your iPhone. Users will now be able to forward Skype calls to a phone number when you're not signed in, so you can pick up calls even when the Skype app isn't running on your device

Additionally you'll also now be able to send text messages from the call tab.

Skype also say that calls are now connected much faster and that the overall audio quality has been improved as well.

Other features include contact group support, and the ability to stay online when the phone becomes locked.
