Toshiba has announced a new "variant" of its Snapdragon-powered TG01 touchscreen phone, the "TG01 Windows phone".The "new" model differs only in the fact that it will feature the new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, although those that already have an "old" TG01 will be able to upgrade their handset to 6.5 free of charge.
As well as improved touch performance, a new homescreen and speed increases, 6.5 will bring full support for Windows Marketplace for Mobile, the software giant's answer to Apple's App Store.
Describing the mark II model as a "fully-certified Windows phone", the new version will lose the colourful, stripey skin that Tosh put on the first phone's UI.
Toshiba says the updated TG01 will be available across Europe from 6 October 2009, when the new mobile OS launches.
