Toshiba brings LEDs to REGZA SV

IFA 2009: Improved backlighting tech and still upscaling your DVDs

Toshiba, like everyone else at IFA 2009, has decided that LED TVs are the way to go and has announced its first in the shape of the REGZA SV series. The full backlighting offers a better colour gamut than before plus an improved 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast because of the help of more localised dimming.

The sets have a 200Hz frame rate and still feature the Resolution+ technology which upscales SD images to somewhere close to the true 1080p which the company can finally offer through Blu-ray. Other features include an intelligent light sensor, DLNA, Dolby Volume - for levelling out inconsistent sound - and a new MetaBrain single chip inside which co-ordinates them all.

The range comes in either 46-or 55-inch sizes with four HDMI connects, SD and USB slots and it'll play audio and DivX codecs too. On the outside, the SVs continue the use of the Toshiba Deep Lagoon design. The frame is flush with the rest of the panel and fades from black in the middle to white on the edge. They're available to buy from September.
