Samsung launches BEAT range of portable players

IFA 2009: Three DivX-certified, microSD expandable PMPs

It wouldn't be a tech show if Samsung wasn't launching PMPs and IFA 2009 sees the arrival of the BEAT range of DivX certified devices with ease of use at their heart.

The added support is designed to cut down on the hassle of file conversion, with many of the files downloaded now taking the videocodec as standard. Added to this the drag and drop system of media transfer means that there's no wasting time or disk space with more software vying for control of your music.

The R1 is the slimmest of the three. It's a touch player with a 2.6-inch widescreen and the first of its class with DivX certification. The R0 is the next step up with tactile keys for operation in low light conditions and a microSD slot for expansion. Top of the line though is the 3.3-inch AMOLED-sporting M1 with all the kinds of features you'd expect - FM radio, stereo speakers, microSD slot, voice recorder, Bluetooth, customisable widget interface and swish-sounding scratch-resistant metal case.

All three come in either 8GB or 16GB sizes and with Samsung's Digital Natural Sound engine (DNS 3.0). Prices, dates and a much closer look when we hit the show floor.
