HMV snares 50% share of 7digital

Download specialist to power high street stores online music and vids

HMV has gone 50-50 with 7digital in a major investment in digital music for the high street store. The £7.7 million stake means that 7digital will power all of HMV's music and video downloads in the UK and Canada as well as for eBook readers in Waterstones.

The deal offers full access to over 6 million tracks from all of the four majors as well as the use of 7digital Locker, which lets users re-download items already purchased to any music player, mobile phone or computer with an internet connection.

The move comes as another coup for the UK digital music specialist who already manages downloads for Spotify, Last.fm, and a soon to be launched MP3 download application for RIM's BlackBerry devices.
