IFA 2009: 5-megapixel camera and 1080p camcorder in one orange package

Sony releases MHS-PM1 Mobile HD Snap Camera

2 September 2009 17:24 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Sony has announced the MHS-PM1 - which it's also calling the "Mobile HD Snap Camera". It's a two-in-one camera and camcorder, which can take 5-megapixel stills using a "STILL" button, and 1080p HD video using a "MOVIE" button.

It also has a "Sharemark" button, which marks a photo or video in the library for sharing to web services like Picasa, YouTube and DailyMotion when you sync it to your PC. There's a 270-degree swivelling lens, which switches on the camera rotated, and it comes with a 4x digital zoom.

There are five scene selection modes - sports, landscape, low light, and backlight - but the press release doesn't tell us how much onboard storage there is - just that it's compatible with Sony's proprietary Memory Stick PRO Duo format.

The MHS-PM1 doesn't having any pricing or availability info yet, but we'll let you know when we hear anything on the subject.
