IFA 2009: Video delivery service promised

Playstation Network has 27 million accounts

2 September 2009 16:35 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Sony's Playstation Network now has 27 million registered accounts, CEO Howard Stringer told journalists at Sony's IFA press conference.

The service, delivers online gaming and digital media to subscribers - much like Microsoft's Xbox Live. It can also deliver streaming video and Sony's planning a big push for this one - covering all the major studios in Europe as well as smaller local ones.

The service will also be tied in more with Sony's other companies - Sony Pictures, Sony Music, Sony Ericsson, and Sony Computer Entertainment. It's all coming together under the banner of "make.believe" for greater integration between Sony's different branches.

  • They may have 27 million accounts but 3 of them are mine and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has multiple accounts to get the demos unavailable in my region. The actual user figure's got to be much lower than that, Posted by TSires, Hong Kong
