US-bound HTC Hero loses its chin?

Iconic design feature goes missing

US-bound HTC Hero loses its chin?

While over in the UK we're sitting pretty with four Android handsets on the market, the US is suffering with just two. There are plans to rectify that by bringing the HTC Hero stateside, but the latest indications are that it might arrive without its iconic chin.

Chinese site 8080.net claims that the CDMA edition of the HTC Hero is getting a physical makeover that removes the lovely Teflon coating and sleek modern lines, replacing them with a more rounded design and gold detail on the trackball and around the edges.

It appears to have the same specs and OS as the HTC Hero200, including the "Sense" interface, exclusive to the handset. But could this be a completely different phone altogether? It wouldn't be the first time HTC has tried a bait-and-switch on phone design. Only time will tell.

Thanks, Tony
