Rockstar Games, the team behind the Grand Theft Auto series, has announced that it's releasing an iPhone application called Beaterator this Autumn. It's a port of a PSP game due later in the month that allows players to create "world-class" beats and songs.

The app features "thousands" of different loops and sounds, according to the company, and should be accessible to anyone - from musical professionals to the greenest amateur.

Sam Houser, Rockstar's Founder, told Pocket-lint: "The simple, pick-up-and-play nature of Beaterator lends itself so well to the Apple platforms. We are happy to deliver an application that allows for such unprecedented sharing and ease-of-use".

The app doesn't yet have a release date or a price, but the PSP version will be showing up in Europe on 2 October. It shouldn't be too long after that until it turns up on Apple's platform too.
