Tennis US Open officials have banned players like Andy Murray from Tweeting during matches at the grand slam tournament this week at Flushing Meadows in New York.The governing body is worried that players might be tempted to keep in touch with fans during the game, breaking competitions rules stating that players aren't allowed to pass along inside information about matches and players.
The advisory notices, which appeared around the courts last week apply to coaches, agents, family members, and tournament staff.
However, Andy Roddick, who won the Open in 2003, wasn't so happy with the decision:
"I think its lame the U.S. Open is trying to regulate our tweeting. I understand the on-court issue, but not sure they can tell us if we can. I definitely respect the rule about inside info and on court, but u would seriously have to be a moron to send 'inside info' through a tweet," he said on Twitter over three tweets. It is not certain whether he was courtside at the time.
However Britain's Andy Murray still seems to be tweeting:
